With the participation of eight teams, we held the PE–ZESE University Small-Sided Football Tournament for the fifth time. This time, the matches took place on the artificial turf fields of the City Youth and Sports Center, outside the Pannon University campus in Zalaegerszeg, in a new venue. ⚽
In the field, teams from the Zalaegerszeg and Nagykanizsa campuses of the Pannon University, the Zalai University Sports Association (ZESE), the Mate Georgikon from Kesztely, as well as the PTE ETK Zalaegerszeg Training Center, were represented by three high schools: the Kölcsey Ferenc Gymnasium, the ZSZC Ganz Ábrahám Technical College and the ZSZC Báthory István Technical College.
At the opening ceremony, Szekeres Szabolcs, Director of the Zala County Board of the MLSZ, welcomed the young athletes. He emphasized that supporting university sports is important for the federation, as well as providing young people with as many opportunities as possible to participate in sports. Bella Dániel, gymnastics director and president of the Zalai University Sports Association, presented the organization and rules, and then the matches began.
The teams played against each other in two groups on two courts. In Group A were the teams of ZESE, Báthory, Kölcsey and PTE. PTE finished unbeaten in the lead, and for the second place to the semi-final, ZESE and Kölcsey fought a great battle. The final decision on advancement was made by a penalty shootout, from which the gymnasium students emerged victorious.
In Group B, the teams of PE-ZEG, MATE, Ganz and PEN competed for promotion. The group was won by Ganz, while the second place was taken by MATE.
In the semi-final, the PTE ETK team defeated the MATE team in a penalty shootout, while in the other match, Kölcsey achieved a 2-0 victory against Ganz to advance to the final. In the bronze match, Ganz surpassed the MATE team, thus securing third place.
The final was also exciting: again, a penalty shootout decided the tournament victory, in which PTE proved to be better than Kölcse, thus the team of PTE ETK Zalaegerszeg was able to lift the trophy for the winner. 🏆
