Further Hungarian successes have been brought by the FISU World University Cycling Championships taking place in China, where VESC competitors – including students from the University of Pannonia – competed in both the eliminator and XCO disciplines.
On Sunday, the stifling heat presented a serious challenge to the field during the eliminator races, but despite this, the competitors fought with great determination. While Bendegúz Magyar gave his all to advance during his races, he ultimately did not make it into the top eight. Áron Horváth, the defending champion, finished the event in 8th place this time.
Even better results were achieved in the women's field. Regina Bruchner narrowly missed out on qualifying for the top four, but confidently won the „B” final, finishing in an excellent 5th place. Csenge Bokros delivered excellent times despite a slight illness and was a favourite going into the final. Unfortunately, due to an accidental collision, she ultimately finished with a bronze medal, securing another valuable Hungarian medal at the World Championships.
In the afternoon's programme, the heats for the mixed team relays were held, with Regina Bruchner representing Hungary. Competing in a combined formation with Dutch athletes, her team finished in second place.
On Monday, the weather presented competitors with entirely new challenges: the previous heat gave way to torrential rain, and lightning accompanied the start of the men's XCO field. Bendegúz Magyar and Áron Horváth completed the race in tough conditions; the former finished in 19th place, the latter in 12th.
The rain had somewhat subsided for the women's XCO race, and the weather turned summery again by the finish line. Regina Bruchner and Csenge Bokros both had excellent starts. Regina maintained her podium position confidently throughout and ultimately secured a silver medal at the World Championships. Despite her illness, Csenge Bokros fought hard again on this day and finished the race in 6th place.
It is a special pride that Bokros Csenge, Bruchner Regina and Bendegúz Magyar As students of Pannonia University, they represented their country at the World Championships.
Our heartfelt congratulations to all the competitors for their hard work, outstanding achievements, and exemplary performance!
